Basic Life Support (BLS) – Instructor-Led Training
The BLS Course trains participants to promptly recognize several life-threatening emergencies, give high-quality chest compressions, deliver appropriate ventilation and provide early use of an AED.
In the Instructor-led course, students participate in simulated clinical scenarios and learning stations. Students work with an AHA BLS Instructor to complete BLS skills practice and skills testing. Students also complete a written exam.

Course Content
- High-quality CPR for adults, children, and infants
- The AHA Chain of Survival, specifically the BLS components
- Use of an AED
- Effective ventilation using a barrier device
- Importance of teams in multi rescuer resuscitation and performance as an effective team member during multi rescuer CPR
- Relief of foreign-body airway obstruction (choking) for adults and infants
Each student must have a copy of the BLS Provider manual for initial course.
- Full BLS Provider Course takes approximately 4.5 hours to complete, including skills practice and skills testing
- A BLS Renewal Course takes approximately 3 hours to complete, including skills practice and testing
Skills exam will last approximately 1-2 hours and the student must have completed Part 1 of the Online course. Your certificate for this online completion will be collected at the time of testing.
This is an American Heart Association Course and you will receive a card from the American Heart Association upon successful completion of the class.
